Home Care: Garden remedies, home nursing and making the most of summer break
Dear Friends,
Welcome to our Summer newsletter!
As we move from Spring into Summer, we head out on excursions, prepare for vacations, and generally spend more time outdoors. This is the time of year when we embrace nature and start to exhale into the world around us. We are less focused on detailed tasks and have less routine, so we can feel pulled into many different directions at once. This can feel a little chaotic and ungrounding, so it’s a good time to simplify our lives, step out of the rush and renew our bodies and minds.
With this in mind, we have included resources on home remedies made from many foods and herbs found in our own gardens! Tired feet from a day of walking or hiking? Try a lemon foot bath. Bug bites? A slice of raw onion or raw potato might reduce the irritation. An arnica compress can bring comfort and healing to bruises and sprains, and a calendula soak can be the perfect wash for abrasions. See more in the featured article on Healing Applications. Also included is an article on nursing and how we can bring this healing art into our homes through self-care and caring for our loved ones. In addition, we’ve included a short video on working with children through an understanding of individual constitutions.
Since summer often brings many of us into more time spent with children, it’s an excellent time to actively observe, contemplate and support our young people. With potentially long stretches of unstructured and leisurely time for children, it’s important to remain mindful of on the impact of technologies on the social life of children- click here for a short video produced by the European Alliance of Initiatives for Applied Anthroposophy (ELIANT).
Healthy activity makes for healthier children, so get out and explore your yard, your neighborhood and beyond, together this summer!
