Presented by, Dr. Carmen Hering, DO:
In this presentation, Laurie Schmiesing explores winter wellness and the prevention and treatment of colds and flus through the perspective of anthroposophic nursing. She examines how human beings can synchronize with the slower, more inward rhythm of winter, comparing seasonal rest and restoration with the way plants and animals respond to colder months. The presentation focuses on three key areas of winter wellness—rest, warmth, and breathing—and discusses practical ways to support the body, mind, and spirit through nourishing foods, staying warm, proper hydration, mindful breathing, and periods of rest and reflection. It also introduces several traditional and anthroposophic home-care approaches for common winter complaints, including chest congestion, coughing, and sinus discomfort, such as ginger and thyme compresses, lemon foot baths, and selected natural remedies.
